AM I EVIL? YES I AM!

4963863-darthvaderWhen I was taking my senior philosophy courses, I was disappointed by the lack of variety in subject matter (they offered a lot of ethics) and so I was able to construct my own independent study. Because I had already spent a lot of time studying the metaphysical, which includes the existence or non-existence of God, I chose to continue that inquiry into evil–seemed fitting.

While eyeballs deep into the independent study, my very first lesson was that I should have researched books more thoroughly and chosen better. I remember, after reading through several chapters, flipping the book over a number of times to see what the writers’ credentials were to have written such material. Frankly, the book was probably made for younger students who need fictional characters to envision the concept–it mostly annoyed me. Not that I mind discussing Darth Vader or breaking down the intricate nuances of other beloved fictional characters, it was just utilized too much (in my opinion, which you’ll see bled into the writing as you read).

So, without further ado, in continuation of my previous post, God, Evil & Morality, click on the below link to view the meditation of what evil is in conjunction with a Darth Vader character analysis.

What is Evil

Disclaimer: I’m not very political; however, the attached document does broach that topic slightly with what was going on at the time when it was written (approximately 2011). That being said, it does not, by any means, convey my political stance or beliefs regarding the rebels or the Dark Side in any real or metaphoric realm. Well, except for the part about Wall Street. Maybe.

THE POWER OF THREE

planet-1039926_1280Metaphysical conversations are probably my favorite because they deal in things we just don’t know and probably will never know–at least not in my lifetime. Often those conversations can be quite controversial, especially when you bring God into the equation.

There are plenty of interesting concepts to think critically about, but I believe I found the topics of religion, spirituality, God and good and evil to be the most intriguing of them all. While I have no clear-cut answer on any of them (and neither does anyone else–the answer to all is not “you’ve got to have faith,” because faith is a fallacious argument), it certainly made me think about things somewhat differently.

The attached is the first of several pieces related to the above-referenced subjects and will begin with the characteristics of God and discuss the design argument. It was after this exploration and learning about the three required, age-old elements that I determined that God doesn’t exist the way we have defined Him.

Not so coincidentally, that discussion also inspired Meet Mr. G, which is the science fiction, short story, e-book I self-published in March 2015. Check it out. But first, click the link below to read about The Power of Three.

THE PORTRAIT

soul-746560_1280The Portrait is a short, short story where nothing is what it seems. It is the first script I have done–no, I take that back. I did one other one. It was an epic fail and a horrible, gruesome experience (mainly because I didn’t know what I was doing and struggled against the structural change from standard prose). Now that I’ve learned a few things, the whole process was less traumatic. Hopefully, I have  not become as delusional as I hope my character is.

By technicality, the story is explicit (but maybe in a PG-13 sort of way, in my opinion). Click the link below to read the story and feel free to leave a comment and/or feedback.

TRUTH AND PERFECT IMPERFECTIONS

DescartesIf you have followed my blog, you know where I stand on that elusive word truth. If not, well, it’s peppered throughout that I think truth is merely a matter of dates because we often equate it to subjective material, but that if something is actually true it should be constantly and consistently the same through time. It’s my understanding that Plato was the first to determine that truth should be constant–correct me if I’m wrong.

At any rate, the attached thought paper was crafted by the random misfirings of an undergraduate philosophy student who thought she was being witty (ahem…me, being a smart ass) attempting to produce a constructive mediation while studying Rene Descartes. I realize that my conclusion is reaching–it was not meant to be a formal argument or dissertation by any means–just thoughts about something I had read. In hindsight, I now wish I would have at least notated what I was reading more specifically.

Descarte Mediations-Truth & Perfect Imperfections

During that period of my journey I also spent a lot of time devoting lyrical content to those particular metaphysical thoughts swimming around in my head. Most of the early stuff with The Others is a trifecta of sorts, incorporating vampiric themes and philosophy with a metaphor weaved into the layers. The song that references the perfect imperfections can be found in The Letting.

UNVEILED

(Spoken word–excerpt from H.P. Lovecraft’s Nemesis)

I feel it

Underneath my skin

Burnin’, burnin’

In my veins

Lift the veil to eternal sin

Remnants remain of this soul

The only thing metaphysical

Is the fact that you don’t really know

(Spoken word–excerpt from H.P. Lovecraft’s Nemesis)

Accept who you are

Good and evil

Trades sides

All the time

Change me (whisper)

Go on and change me

Lift the veil

By light of the moon

Begin this fairytale

Go on and change me

Lift the veil

Bein’ bad is so good

Evil doers so easy

Go on and change me

Lift the veil

Close your eyes

Let it sink in your mind

Feel it

Feel it

Feel it

Let your strength take control

Watch yourself become invincible

And become a God

Go on and change me

Lift the veil

By light of the moon

Begin this fairytale

Go on and change me

Lift the veil

Bein’ bad is so good

Evil doers so easy

Go on and change me

Lift the veil

As always–sleep tight!

WHO IS MR. G?

“The General stood, realizing his prosateur was about to begin typing again, and walked back to his position in front of the bookshelf, but directly behind Mr. G. As he passed by the mirror, the General cocked his head slightly with surprise as he noticed he had no reflection. Contemplating the oddity, he simultaneously caught a glimpse from the corner of his eye of what appeared to be an unfinished manuscript haphazardly placed on the shelf. It had a black, leather-bound cover with a label barely taped to the spine that read: “The Imperative Cosmological Paradigm Shift.”
